Indian Heritage Trail

This byway journeys begins in Mount Gilead (Montgomery County) at the intersection of NC-73 (Main Street) and NC-731 (Allenton Street).  The route follows NC-731 east about 4 miles and then turns south down Town Creek Mound Road, which joins back to NC-73.  The route follows NC-73 all the way to US-220 where travelers then head south down through Ellerbe and then east along Church Street to the byway end with the intersection of Haywood Parker Road.  This byway explores a part of North Carolina’s rich Native American heritage and travels through North Carolina's prime peach-growing region.
