Background

There is no denying that the NC Triad is home to many beautiful recreation destinations. The idea for this website grew from the need for one central resource for all things recreation in the Triad. The Piedmont Triad Regional Council (PTRC), a voluntary association of local governments, was already an established entity that brought together local governments in the 12-county region and other recreation partners across the State. These local government members recognized the need to further develop the outdoor recreation industry, create new job opportunities, and increase tourism revenues in both urban and rural counties. The PTRC formed Piedmont Triad Outdoor Recreation Advisory Council in 2018 to guide the development of the Piedmont Triad Strategic Outdoor Recreation Plan (April 2022). Building the this website was the top marketing priority of this strategic plan. The PTRC Regional Planning Department led the process to build the website and continues to maintain the website and the extensive database of recreation destinations across the Triad.
